Following the footsteps of Governor Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Governor has also indicated of bringing reforms into public universities. This idea has been suddenly launched into media, starting with introducing uniforms in public sector universities of KP. Shah Farman, Governor KP is considering to set up a body in communication with Chief Minister of KP for monitoring the academic and financial performance of universities. This body will be made responsible for bringing discipline, transparency and accountability in public sector universities.
One of the drop back of existing system was also highlighted by Governor KP that although, these universities are running on public money but they are not in a position to establish discipline. Few of the public universities are in such an awful condition that even conducting an audit is not possible. Universities have such an authority that they reject some of the decision at their face, whereas, at least, public sector universities shall be bound to implement the decisions of their respective assemblies.
Governor KP said that he is in discussion with CM of KP for bringing the much needed reforms into public sector universities so that an oversight authority could be established on strong footing. Moreover, universities first take the fund and then decide where to spend, the budgets are made without any future plans. At present, students in universities come from diverse backgrounds and wearing designer clothes causes an inferiority complex among the students. Therefore, all public sector universities will have a uniform of their own with each department having their own uniform can be considered. He said that this will be a first step for bringing standardization in education infrastructure across KP.
