Lahore: The Momentary Designation of Higher Education Secretary

as a chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has been reprehended by the Federation of All Pakistan  Universities Academic staff Association.

FAPUASA President Dr.Mahboob Hussain, Punjab President Dr. Hamid Mukhtar and others, in a press conference, have explained that on the intention of the bureaucracy the momentary designation of the secretary was based on mala fide because  it wished to bring the system of higher education under its command. They extended that government must choose to appoint an eligible   person of HEC as a chairperson for such an apex post of Higher Education sector.

They explained the disappointment of the teachers of all the universities of Punjab. Senior faculty of Punjab is annoyed with government decision of appointing  a non-PhD junior bureaucrat who will call a meeting with senior PhD faculty members ,who serve in grade 22 as vice-chancellors of universities and are acknowledged internationally academicians.

They said that the government is supporting   bureaucratic control over education system instead   instead of strengthening higher education system and awarding honour and respect to teachers  according  to promise. This non serious decision of government leads to devastating consequences.

They highlighted that PHEC  would be badly influenced by the government policy whereas, in past 15 years, universities were the only institution of Pakistan that were making progress at national and international level because of no political or bureaucratic interference.

They requested Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar and Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun to promptly expel a non-PhD as PHEC acting chairman and designate any member of senior  PhD faculty of the universities working on the scale equivalent  to grade 22.
