Intermediate level in the country is recognized with the name of Higher Secondary School Certificate. It is the second most important examination in the academic life of students. The results of intermediate are critical as it ensures the entry into various university programs. Nevertheless, intermediate’s entry level exam is 11th class examination. After ten years of consecutive study, a student appears in matriculation exam. BISE Swat is the only educational body in the administrative division of Malakand, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The board is responsible for conducting matriculation and intermediate exams. BISE Swat was formulated in 1990, however, it started its operations in 1992 and conducted its first exam in 1993. The board is located in Kokrai, Marghazar which is one of the posh areas of Swat. The jurisdictions of BISE Swat include Shangla, Buner and Swat. BISE Swat is one of those educational boards of the country that have initiated online services for its students. The requests of rechecking, results, name corrections, date of birth corrections and migration requests can be entertained through its online system. All the complainants get an application tracking number which can then be used for tracking the status of request.

The board is led by a veteran academician, Prof. Syed Nabi Shah in the capacity of Chairman. The other key position holder of BISE Swat is Umer Hussain, Controller of Examinations. The board mentions that its ultimate objective is to facilitate students, teachers and all institutions by providing them with required services on time. Chairman of BISE Swat is of the view that educational institutes play an important role in the lives of nation as they train the leaders of future. Therefore, the capacity building of schools is highly critical. He aspires to bring certain innovations in the operations of BISE Swat that takes it to the height of trendsetter in the system of examination across the country.

BISE Swat is one of the younger boards not only within KP but across the country, hence, it recommends to take decisions in the light of announcements made by BISE Peshawar. Nevertheless, BISE Swat is an independent body and has the power to make its own decisions, likewise, BISE Swat is pushing KP Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education for conducting exams in any possible manner. There are certain speculations that boards in Punjab are very close to announcing the revised schedule. In order to resolve these issues, Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has called on a meeting with all the provincial Chairmen. The invitations are sent to all as the meeting will be conducted online and headed by Chairman of Agha Khan Board.

IBCC has made it loud and clear that all the decisions will be made in the best interest of students and institutes. No preference shall be given to any region or area and a joint strategy by all the educational boards shall be agreed as the way forward. IBCC will take one week for discussion as all the agenda matters are highly important. Once a unanimous decision is reached, the information shall be publicized and communicated to all the educational boards and provincial governments.
