One of the vital boards in Sindh is BISE Sukkur as it conducts exams on annual basis for the classes of intermediate and matric. The entire educational boards in the country observe the exam session during the months of March to June. The same was expected for the year of 2020 as well. However, the situation changed on its head as the arrival of COVID – 19 in the entire country damaged the examination system too. The exams were in process while the precautionary measures were being taken during the exams, therefore, the suspension took place for an indefinite period. Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Sukkur was established in the year 1979 under the ordinance made by the government for establishment of educational boards within the province of Sindh. The fist camp office of BISE Sukkur was in a rented building within the residential area of the city. However, the current building of BISE Sukkur is in their use since 1985. The jurisdictions of the board at the time of emergence were huge including, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Larkana, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Ghotki and Shikarpur. Later on, the bifurcations were made into various cities and districts and therefore, the jurisdiction of BISE Sukkur were modified as well. At present, it has jurisdiction over the areas of Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze.
The first examination under the banner of BISE Sukkur was conducted after one year in 1980. In order to provide maximum facilities for students and educational institutes, BISE Sukkur actively enhances its budget in every preceding year. The board doesn’t rely on any funding or grants from the government of Sindh. BISE Sukkur is an autonomous body and have their own budgets which is managed through the collection of fees against various services of the board. Extra-curricular activities are also conducted by the board within its areas of jurisdiction. The performance of BISE Sukkur is constantly on high as board has performed well in sports, such as, hockey, cricket, football and table tennis.

Currently, all the educational boards of Sindh are looking to announce the way forward for the exams of 2020 and BISE Sukkur is no different either. Sindh Board has already communicated to all the educational boards for searching and updating their records as in the case of exams cancellation, all the students will be awarded marks based on previous results. On the other hand, all the educational boards and students want exams to be conducted rather than awarding of marks based on previous results. BISE Sukkur has forwarded their remarks on the said matter to Chairman, Sindh Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. The reason of putting BISE Sukkur’s remarks on the table of Chairman Sindh Board is that an online meeting is going to be conducted among all the Chairmen of provincial educational boards.
Meeting will be based on deciding a joint strategy by all the provinces in order to proceed further. The time is passing by and next month is June which means half of the year will be passed and usually this is the time of practical papers where all the theory papers have been completed. The boards are now running out of time, therefore, it is now high time that when these boards decide for a way forward. The meeting will be presided by a neutral person, hence, Chairman of Agha Khan Board will head the meeting. There are certain speculations by the sources that there could be a change in paper pattern or grading structure. Lastly, the most credible information suggests that 2020 might be the first year of exams without practical papers being conducted.
