BISE Peshawar was established in 1961 and was one of the first bifurcations made into BISE Lahore. Initially, after the emergence of Pakistan on world map, the responsibilities of regulating and conducting exams for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education were taken up by University of Peshawar. The duties were carried out by University from 1950 to 1961 and after one decade, on the basis of national education commission’s report, the ordinance for formulation of educational boards was passed. BISE Peshawar was then setup within the University of Peshawar’s campus in 1961 and first action which the board did was to reorganize the examination system in the province.

Due to an immense workload of the board, various camp offices were established in Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan). The jurisdiction of BISE Peshawar included the entire province of KP (NWFP at that time) along with all of its tribal areas. The current jurisdictions of BISE Peshawar include Khyber Agency, Charsada, Shabqadar, Mohmand Agency, Chitral and Peshawar. The board has carried its successful operations since last five decades and is primarily made responsible for the conduction of matriculation and intermediate exams on annual basis. In addition to that, BISE Peshawar conducts supplementary examinations too as per the agreed and announced schedule. Recently, the board has launched an online platform for providing various services to the students in order to facilitate the students.

BISE Peshawar has gained the status of trendsetter in the province of KP. It is one of the eldest and efficient boards under the umbrella of KP Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education. The primary reason of such great credentials and badges on the account of BISE Peshawar is that it was the first educational board in the province. It used to be responsible for managing the operations of entire province until 1980s when further boards were formulated. KP has one of the best literacy improving ratios in the country. Due to a large influx of population and urbanization, Punjab dominates the overall literacy rate but KP is fast catching that. The recent developments in the province of KP and uplifting of the education sector is meeting the much expected and long awaited requirements of KP.

The date sheets are announced at least a month and half before the conduct of exams, however, the dates and schedule of papers are due to change every year. For instance, if 2019 date sheet was concluded by computer paper, in 2020, it can start with computer paper. Although, such a situation is not witnessed but is in the hands of various BISEs. A usual trend is being followed for every year with date sheet primarily focusing on science subjects initially, moving onto humanities courses and lastly, the other remaining courses or arts subjects opted by students.
