BISE Malakand is one of the educational boards working under the control of KP Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education. BISE Malakand was established under Northern Western Frontier Province Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act of 1990, however, it was replaced with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act in 2010. The 18th amendment to the constitution of Pakistan changed the name of NWFP to KP as it was long demanded by the province itself. Before the establishment of BISE Malakand, the areas under its jurisdiction were directly controlled by BISE Peshawar. The national education commission in 1958 suggested the idea of formulating more educational boards which resulted in creation of BISE Peshawar. On similar grounds, with the increase in workload of other boards that were offshoots of BISE Peshawar, such as, BISE Mardan and BISE Swat, more boards were established in 1990s. BISE Malakand’s current jurisdictions are Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Malakand and Bajaur Agency.
