Intermediate is one the most important examination in the life of students. The main reason of intermediate being of such a vital nature is that as soon as the students pass it out, they are eligible for the higher education. All the universities across the globe enrolls students after a minimum of 12 years of education. These twelve years are marked at the completion of intermediate level. BISE Lahore is the most ancient educational boards in the country. The newly born country in 1947 didn’t had any such educational bodies but in order to conduct the examination, University of Punjab managed all educational affairs. However, the act of Punjab University was rectified and a separate Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education was created. The board was created in 1954 with the name of BISE Lahore. The first examination under the banner of BISE Lahore was conducted in 1955. At that time, board had a large jurisdiction over entire Punjab Province, Balochistan (Baluchistan at that time), Azad Kashmir and all Northern Areas. The educational environment kept on improving in the country which caused the formulation of further boards.

The current jurisdiction of the board covers four various districts including Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib. The first boards created out of BISE Lahore were in Multan and Sargodha. Later on, further boards were established based in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Faisalabad. All the boards were established under West Pakistan Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance, 1968. Whereas, all the educational boards in Punjab are now administered under Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act, 1976. The aim of the board is to conduct exams in a fair, transparent, unbiased and judicious manner so that educational environment in the country can be developed. BISE Lahore performs many functions out of which primary is to conduct examinations smoothly.

Talking of the examination system and its implications, they are of humungous nature and therefore, BISE Lahore or even Punjab Board needs to make wise decision regarding the conduct of exams. It would not be wrong to say that BISE Lahore has one of the highest students’ network in the country. The pressure on the board increases due to the high numbers of students and institutes. Nevertheless, BISE Lahore is highly hopeful of conducting exams within the month of June. One of the board officials said that either the exams could be conducted in June or July. Recent positive developments had taken place with regards to the conduct of examination.

The joint forum of all educational boards, Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has scheduled an online meeting. The agenda of meeting will include key decisions regarding the examination and its conduct shall be discussed. Intermediate and Matriculation’s remaining exams conduction decision will be the center of agenda. Other key discussions will include the possibilities of various plans including the conduct of exams, secondly, the postponement of exams and lastly, the cancellation if required. However, the consequences of all these decisions will also be discussed as multiple implications will be followed related to any of the decision made as final verdict. IBCC has further communicated that final decision in the meeting shall be taken with mutual consensus among all the participants. The final agreed decision shall be communicated to all the provincial governments and educational boards in the third week of May.
