BISE Kohat stands out to be one of the most younger educational boards in the country. The board took its first breathe in 2002 and Brig. (rtd.) Talat Imtiax Naqvi was the founding Chairman of BISE Kohat. The jurisdictions of the board were earlier managed by other educational boards in KP, however, after its establishment, it carried out operations within the building of KDA for a smaller period of 2 years and few months. Later on, BISE Kohat’s own building was built on Indus Highway adjacent to Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST). The building was completed in a record period of approximately 2 years. Once it was completed for operations, inauguration was done by then Governor of the province, Lt. General (rtd.) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah.
The current jurisdictions of the board covers Kohat itself, Karak District, Hangu District and Agencies of Orakzai and Kurram. At present, Dr. Shaukat Hayat is the Chairman of BISE Kohat and is leading the board in a highly professional manner. The board works on the motto of fairness for all. BISE Kohat performs numerous functions other than conducting exams as it provides the data of students and institutes to the government, approves, withdraws and refuses the recognition or affiliation of any educational institute, issues certificates and NOCs to students, inspects educational institutes, awards the students and institutes and lastly, arranges co-curricular activities for the well-being of students.

12th class exam is of critical level because it marks the completion of intermediate level. It becomes the basis of transformation from one level to the other. It is an exam which is based on twelve rigorous years of study completed by students through various private and public sector institutes.
