BISE Kohat is one the youngest boards within the province of KP as it was established in year 2002 as Brig. (rtd.) Talat Imtiaz Naqvi was its first Chairman. The setup of BISE Kohat was not in place and needed to be established, therefore, the board operated temporarily in Kohat Development Authority’s (KDA) office for a period of 2 years. A land was procured on Indus Highway along the building of Kohat University of Science and Technology and construction was started for building BISE Kohat’s building. The educational complex was inaugurated by the then Governor, Lt. General (rtd.) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah. BISE Kohat is one the efficient boards of KP as it was built with great professionalism under the founding Chairman. The current jurisdictions of the board include Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Orakzai and Kurram Agencies.
The board is currently led by Dr. Shaukat Hayat in the capacity of Chairman, BISE Kohat. The aim of board is to evaluate students on a standardized examination system based on the principle of fairness for all. BISE Kohat is responsible for conducting matric and intermediate exams on annual basis for the areas of its jurisdiction. The board performs numerous functions other than conducting exams as it provides the data of students and institutes to the government, approves, withdraws and refuses the recognition or affiliation of any educational institute, issues certificates and NOCs to students, inspects educational institutes, awards the students and institutes and lastly, arranges co-curricular activities for the well-being of students. The educational ecosystem in KP is ever evolving, therefore, the roles of various educational boards is highly critical.

As per the master plan of KP Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education, BISE Kohat has launched online program for its students. All the services provided by BISE Kohat are now accessible to its students through the official website and mobile applications too. On the other end, BISE Kohat has asked for suggestions from its affiliated institutes regarding the exams conduct for the current year. The situation is unclear and the stakes are very high as a final decision needs to be announced that whether the examination system will be proceeded, postponed or terminated for the current year. The suggestions are asked based on the instructions of KP Board as a meeting has been called among all the educational boards of the country.
The educational boards will be represented by their respective provincial board, hence, Chairman of KP Board will represent all eight educational boards working in the province. The other boards that will be present in the meeting will be Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan along with AJK, GB and Federal Board. The Chairmen of all these boards will be part of the meeting. In regards to the SOPs of social distancing, the meeting will be conducted using an online platform. The decisions as mentioned above will be taken after discussing all the implications at length. All the key issues regarding the conduct of exams are included in agenda of the meeting. The final verdict by all boards will be announced in two weeks of time, however, there are certain speculations of change in the overall examination grading system.
