The board was established in 1990 as result of bifurcations made in BISE Bannu. At present, there are eight different educational boards in the province of KP out of which one is BISE Bannu. The board is working successfully since last three decades. BISE Bannu works with the aim of enlightening youth with quality education and transparent examination system. The main function of the board is to conduct matric and inter exams on annual basis along with that it provides numerous other services including registering and withdrawing the affiliation of the institute, fix and demand fees in lieu of various services, appointment of examiners, inspection of affiliated institutes, awarding scholarships and ensuring the conduct of sports activities.
Formulation of BISE Bannu was done under NWFP Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act, 1990. Later on, the same act was changed as KP Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act owing to the change in name of the province. The number of affiliated institutes with the board is currently 700 expanding over the districts of Bannu and Lakki Marwat along with North Waziristan agency. At the time of inception of BISE Bannu, it had jurisdictions over Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Rank, North Waziristan and South Waziristan. However, with the formulation of other boards, the current jurisdiction is reduced. The current building of BISE Bannu is in its use since 2002 and has a separate accommodation for its staff as well. The board is located in one of the well – known areas of the city.
