The board was established under West Pakistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance. The board is currently managed under Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act, 1978.

The first camp office of BISE Bahawalpur was established in year 1978 within the building of BISE Multan. The operations of board moved to Bahawalpur in 1980s’ with the current building allotted to board in 1993. The board performs various functions including the conduct of exams, issuance of required documents, recognition and withdrawal of institutes, entertaining students’ request and lastly, arranging extra-curricular activities. The board provides all these functions to its areas of jurisdiction. BISE Bahawalpur include Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan as its jurisdiction. BISE Bahawalpur has separate examination departments for managing the workload of intermediate and matric examination.

BISE Bahawalpur along with all other educational boards of Punjab is looking to explore a possible opportunity during which the exams can be conducted. In regards to that, a joint committee established for developing mutual consensus among all the provincial boards is in action. The committee is known with the name of Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC). All the provincial boards Chairmen are the members of this committee. A recent news suggests that IBCC has scheduled a meeting with all the Chairmen of provincial boards for deciding on the conduct of exams. All the Chairmen are sent invitations through the forum of IBCC. The meeting will be conducted using an online platform and headed by Chairman of Aga Khan Board. The agenda of the meeting is aimed at agreeing on a joint force of action in order to announce the revised schedule of examination.

The proposed plan suggests that IBCC is looking to conduct the examination in the month of June, however, the chances are minimal due to numerous challenges at domestic level. The Chairman of Agha Khan Board categorically said that practicing social distancing within the examination centers will be a big challenge. Nevertheless, the board are taking all considerations under discussion and are planning to devise a strategy for every possible situation. If the exams are unable to conduct in the month of June, then possibly the month of July is being targeted as primary objective.
