Being the largest city of the country, Karachi hosts millions of students and thousands of educational institutes. The examinations are conducted by the regulatory boards established by the authorities, BIEK and BSEK respectively. Conduct of exams is based on following the date sheet religiously. BIEK Karachi 11th Class Date Sheet 2020
Before BIEK and BSEK, there was one single board similar to what other educational boards are and it was with the name of BISE Karachi. It was established in 1950 and were among the first boards in the newly born country. The major purpose of the board was and still is to maintain a high standard of education within its jurisdictions. The jurisdictions of BISE Karachi included the entire Sindh, whereas, currently it manages only Karachi. Earlier to independence of the country, the secondary and higher education in the entire province of Sindh was controlled by University of Bombay. Later to that, University of Sindh was established in April, 1947 which controlled the entire secondary and higher secondary education post-independence. In 1950, the duties of secondary and higher secondary education were transferred to Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Karachi.
The board was formulated under the central legislative act of 1950, currently, it is administered under Sindh Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act. The first office of BISE Karachi was in a residential house with a microscopic staff. The first examination under BISE Karachi was conducted in 1951. In 1955, the board shifted to its new building which is currently in the use of both the boards of Karachi. Regular renovations are made in the building to keep it efficient owing to the current needs of the boards. Two separate entities were made in 1974 as Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Karachi and Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) Karachi for managing the workload of the region. BIEK Karachi is now responsible for conducting intermediate exams, whereas, BSEK Karachi conducts the exams for matriculation classes.

Both the educational boards of Karachi are searching for a window of opportunity in which exams could be conducted. The main reason of joint efforts by both the boards, BIEK and BSEK are that exams of matriculation and intermediate both were suspended. Karachi is the central headquarters of Sindh province, therefore, the decision taken by the boards will be followed by all other boards of the province too. Although, Sindh Board has also publicized the information regarding the possible solution in a case of exam cancellation. Recently announced information declares that if the exams of Sindh Board are cancelled for the year 2020, then students might be awarded based on previous results.
Nevertheless, the joint forum of all provincial educational boards has called a meeting for finalizing the future course of action with respect to the conduct of exams. The meeting will be conducted using online medium as per the guidelines laid by government of practicing social distancing. Agenda of the meeting includes key decisions regarding the conduct of exam, postponement of exam and even cancellation of exam. Each of these key decision has its own implications which shall also be discussed at length. A final decision shall be reached with mutual consensus between all the Chairman of provincial boards.
