Aga Khan Board is managed by the authorities of Aga Khan University in Karachi. The board performs the responsibilities of a Federal Board in the former capital city. It has same functions which Federal Board has in Punjab; it could be said that it is the federal board for the province of Sindh. The board was formulated in a response to the demand made by the private schools for a more appropriate and competitive examination. Aga Khan Board came into being in August, 2003 under the ordinance of educational boards. The board is currently under the direct control of Federal Ministry of Education. The paper pattern and grading structure of the exams is different to all the other educational boards of Sindh.

The board is responsible for conducting secondary and higher secondary education within its areas of jurisdiction. As mentioned above, the board functions similar to federal board in Punjab, therefore, Aga Khan Board has its jurisdiction over the entire province of Sindh. The board is an autonomous body with the name of Aga Khan University at its back, hence, it is self-reliant body and doesn’t takes neither any sort of grant nor any funding from federal or even provincial governments. The board is famously known with the name of Aga Khan University Education Board (AKU-EB). The primary objective of the board is to make the examination system more reputable and competitive.

Like all other boards, the federal boards in the country also conduct examination during same dates with minor changes in the dates and timings. Due to the current situation of deadly virus in the country, all the examinations including exams of federal board were suspended for an indefinite period. However, one of the recent publicized news is regarding the meeting of all provincial educational boards in which federal boards will also be invited. The meeting is scheduled using an online platform, therefore, the invitations to all Chairmen of provincial boards including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and KP have already been sent. Although, the meeting will also include the Chairmen of all federal boards along with AJK and GB. Most importantly, the meeting will be headed by Chairman of Aga Khan Board.

Meeting is being conducted under the banner of IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) as it is a joint forum between all the provincial educational boards of the country. The agenda of meeting includes key decisions to be made regarding the conduct of exams. A small indication was given by Dr. Shahzad Jiva, Chairman of Aga Khan Board that the key decisions to take will include the revised schedule of exams, further postponement and lastly but most reluctant decision of cancellation. The main purpose of the meeting is to reach at one common point with adoption of a joint strategy by all the educational boards of the country. There are certain credible sources that have highlighted a change in the examination pattern and grading structure.
